Bison Ranch Retreat for Buffalo Gals

Twenty-two women of the Presbytery gathered at Bison Ranch in Heber, AZ. for the Women's Ministry Retreat 2006.
Okay, so that photo doesn't look like we were particularly wild. But appearances can be deceiving. Especially with this bunch. (click on photo to view larger. I couldn't always use a flash.)
We were also careful that no cameras were around when demonstrating our belly dancing and drumming and mercilessly roasting helpless marshmallow creatures.

We sang our names. . .

and sang God's praise. . .

And sang our gratitude

We also dared to try Learning a New Language. Our Mothers in faith, Rev. Bev Phillips and Rev. Mae Hicks, loved us toward singing God's name as our Mother, without asking permission or making apologies. Georgia Green urged us to dare to be leaders of others, even, no, especially, when we'd rather sit in the back and be quiet. Amy Davis-King kept us singing (and sort of in order,) while I pretty much encouraged everyone to play with our nifty toys.
We surprised ourselves by getting quite serious. We wondered why we hadn't heard stories of other women in leadership, and why we seem to be fighting the same battles that had been "won" thirty years ago. We wondered whether other women in this Presbytery were wondering the same things. We asked difficult questions: why? why not? why not now? if not us, who?

Some of us were really good listeners,

And some of us were too caught up in crafting to listen to much of anything.
Some were constantly puzzled . . .

While others were focused
on all things bead-iful.
And we all did indeed go a little bit wild.
